The banana industry gathered to analyze and reflect on the current state of banana production in our country, as well as to develop effective initiatives that will allow the sector to overcome current challenges and circumstances.
Recently, the Association of Banana Producers of Magdalena and La Guajira (ASBAMA) held the 2022 Banana Forum, a highly valuable event that brought together entrepreneurs, producers, and distributors from the region to discuss bananas, the challenges, and the issues facing the agro-industry today. The activity took place at the Events and Conventions Center of the Irotama Resort Hotel in the city of Santa Marta, in the department of Magdalena.
During the two-day forum, various thematic focal points were explored, including the management of Fusarium Race 4 Tropical wilt in the Latin American context, the market dynamics of organic and conventional bananas, emerging consumption trends of this fruit on a global scale, efficient water use strategies and irrigation systems in banana cultivation, leveraging technology for innovative solutions and development in the agro-industry, as well as soil management techniques to enhance productivity. The soil management and productivity session was led by Fabián Fonseca Mercado, the Director of Productivity at the company.

The event was attended by the Minister of Defense, Diego Molano Aponte, the Minister of Agriculture, Rodolfo Zea Navarro, as well as the Deputy Minister of Agricultural Affairs, Juan Gonzalo Botero; the General Manager of ICA (Colombian Agricultural Institute), Deyanira Barrero León; Jorge Enrique Bedoya Vizcaya, the President of the Colombian Agricultural Society – SAC; the Executive Director of Agrosavia, Jorge Díaz; and the members of the board of directors of the Association of Banana Producers of Magdalena and La Guajira.
